Revolutionizing Beauty Spaces: The Masa Project

William Wei and Jolie Zhu's Ingenious Design Concept Inspired by Keats's "The Four Seasons of Life"

The Masa project stands out for its ingenious use of pure white Corian, brass, terrazzo, and wood. The main area, adorned with brass lines on the floor and curved ceiling walls, evokes the sensation of touching soft skin. This design choice reflects the project's purpose as a beauty club, aiming to offer guests a relaxed and pleasant experience.

One of the unique features of the Masa project is the lobby artwork. Handmade from brass, it casts shadows of English characters representing elements of the four seasons of life. This concept, inspired by Keats's poem, symbolically reflects the perception of life and its different stages, akin to the changing seasons.

The project, based in Shanghai, was realized from November 2018 to June 2019. The design team, which included Wei Liang, Jolie, and Feng Wei Qiang, faced challenges in construction, particularly in detail closing and material combination. Despite these obstacles, the final result met their expectations, showcasing the team's ability to overcome technical difficulties.

The Masa project's design research aimed to create a space that resonates with vitality. The use of partition display perspective, soft fabric armchairs, and an atomizing fireplace combined to create a rich visual sense and energy. This design approach represents the nature of vitality in a reasonable way, echoing the project's theme of life's changing seasons.

The Masa project's innovative design was recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, further cementing the Masa project's place as a remarkable example of blending art, architecture, and poetry in design.
